What You Should Know About Candle Safety

We are in the heart of the holiday season and are using candles more frequently than during other times of the year, which greatly increases the chance of accidental fires. It is extremely important that we are cautious and attentive when burning candles at all times. According to the National Candle Association, more than 15,000 residential fires are caused each year by the improper use of candles. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission conducted a study and found that 85 percent of candle fires could be avoided if consumers followed these basic safety rules:
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Never burn a candle on or near anything that might catch fire.
- Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.
Candles are part of what makes the holidays feel like the holidays, but please remember to follow these rules and be safe!
